Game Day Open Thread: BTHO Tech!

BTHO Tech!

Game 7: Texas A&M at Texas Tech

Texas A&M Aggies 5-1 (2-0) at Texas Tech Red Raiders 5-1 (1-1)

October 13, 2007 | 2:30 p.m. CT

Jones AT&T Stadium (53,000) | Lubbock, TX

(Ron Franklin, Ed Cunningham, and Jack Arute)

  • What can I say? The Ags haven't won in Lubbock since I was in grade school, but the J-Train guaranteed a win.
  • A win over Tech in Lubbock would go along way towards securing Fran's job and elevating his approval rating.
  • How the Ags fare today will indicate how the rest of this rough road schedule will go.

why change a good thing?
why did we start throwing in the redzone?? we can't afford to go into the redzone and come out empty handed

End of 1st Qtr
A&M 7 Tech 0 A&M looking impressive on offense, but failed to turn a huge, clock devouring drive into points.

secondary..
looking and smelling of swiss cheese.

Tech Scores
A&M 7 Tech 7

..and that is why we can't afford to not convert long drives into points.

Martellus =(
Martellus Bennett helped off the field, left leg looks seriously injured.

Huge 3rd down..
..and we stall out..again.

You can only blame Szymanski so much..
Fran and the staff should know better by now. I don't want to see another field goal on 4th & short.

Halftime
Both teams are dominating on offense, the only difference is that Tech isn't squandering their drives in the red zone.

If A&M has any hopes of coming back, they need the defense to create some turnovers.

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 4:03 PM CDT   0 recs

not exactly
Actually, stops would be sufficient, since they aren't really stopping us until we stop ourselves.  But we haven't really stopped them in years.  I'm not sure what kind of halftime adjustments we make.

I think the only way to stop them is to have defensive backs who can stay man on man long enough to put some pressure on Herrell and get him rattled by hitting him (legally).  But they're so good at picking up the hot open receiver, I don't know if we can do that.

agreed, but..
i just don't think we can cover..or get to the qb.

Punting on 4th&1..
..is not how you come from behind. Fran & Koening need to start taking some risks for some big rewards..

Let's get a drive and a score!
while we have the wind.

by jimhu on Oct 13, 2007 4:47 PM CDT   0 recs

wow..
not sure what happened, McGee looked very awkward on that play. He practically waited for the entire defense to converge on Taylor before throwing it.

3rd and 5
So why do we still throw parallel passes on 3rd and 5?  They DON"T GET FIRST DOWNS.
Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

End of 3rd Qtr
The defense has forced a handful of stops, but the offense continues to blow opportunities and deflate whatever momentum the wrecking crew builds up.
- Brad -

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 5:01 PM CDT   0 recs

Tackling
What was a 4 yard loss becomes a 30 yard gain after a missed backfield tackle...again, just before the end of the third

by ihavethemelody on Oct 13, 2007 5:02 PM CDT   0 recs

i'm starting to think..
these tech WRs could catch the ball blindfolded and with one-hand

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 5:05 PM CDT   0 recs

Wrecking Crew
This defense just cannot be called the wrecking crew.  They have not earned that moniker.

If we compare them to the early 90's team..
then no aggie defense will ever earn that title again.

Look! Another Touchdown!
That was pretty wasn't it?  Game over.  SOB.  This is what happens when you kick 2 field goals and MISS  at tech.

Just me or..
did McGee look kinda like Willem DaFoe in Platoon as he got stuffed on that 3rd & 10?
- Brad -

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 5:18 PM CDT   0 recs

It's not the pass yards, it's the total yards
A truly ineffective offense for the second half.

Tackling
Crabtree is just made of vaseline
Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

Crabtree makes the catch and run
with no one anywhere near him.

Tech crushes the windpipe..
tech scores again - 35 A&M - 7

If it'll make you feel better
Rush Yards:
Us: 195
Tech: 90

Something Tech does I actually admire: Their receivers catch the ball running.  I have yet to see an A&M receiver make a catch on the run in this game.

SOB TOUCHDOWN.  HOW DOES OUR DEFENSE PLAY SO POORLY?

Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

by ihavethemelody on Oct 13, 2007 5:25 PM CDT   0 recs

LOL
this is looking more and more like jv football
- Brad -

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 5:28 PM CDT   0 recs

Only on our side
Tech seems pretty capable of passing, catching, tackling, playing a full 60 minutes.

I can't understand why our defense is just so bad and our offense so one dimensional.  And not only is it one dimensional, but we try to pretend it isn't and throw some crappy pass for no yards when we could have just gotten 3 or 4 form Javorski.

There's a reason Gary Darnell was fired, why couldn't we have learned from it?

Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

So...was it over:
a) When we didn't do anything after the blocked FG?
b) When we missed the 2nd FG?
c) When we missed the 1st FG?
d) When we stopped running on the second drive?
e) When we arrived in Lubbock?

by jimhu on Oct 13, 2007 5:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Forget about personal pride
there is no reason Stephen McGee should still be in this game, save McGee the risk of injury and let's get a look at Jerrod.

by The 12th Manchild on Oct 13, 2007 5:36 PM CDT   0 recs

It was over when...
It was over when we stopped running the ball.  I like what we did on the second drive, we tried some passes.  It was over when after passing failed (because we throw quick little 5 yard outs that don't actually stretch the field)and we just pound it every damn time.  They knew it was coming earlier and couldn't stop it, and couldn't stop us later when they knew it was coming.

It was over when we stuck with Coach Fran for 4 years after nothing but mediocrity (although admittedly I've only followed the team since I came here during that Katrina semester).  Texas A&M has the facilities, alumni, and national presence to recruit and be a perennial top 25 team (and possibly top 10) and he has just not been up to the task.

Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

Game Over
I've never seen a team so sabotaged by coaching decisions as I saw today.

** Fran.
